Plant Care

Plant Care keeps up to five plants and how often each needs water. Every morning it tells you which are due, skips an outdoor watering when rain fell or is on its way, warns you on the morning of a frosty night, and reminds you to feed your plants once a month in the growing season.

Plant Care explained 🔰
  • It keeps your plants watered - up to 5 plants, each with how many days apart it needs water and whether it stands indoors or outdoors - and tells you which are due each day.
  • You give your place - your account's address or a town or a neighborhood, of which only a rough area a few kilometers across is used to read the weather - your plants, and whether you want frost alerts.
  • Rain: an outdoor plant is skipped when 5 mm of rain or more fell in the last three days - the rain did the watering - or is forecast for the next two. Indoor plants are watered by their days alone.
  • Frost: when tonight's low is at or under 2 C (36 F), it tells you that morning to bring in or cover your outdoor plants.
  • Feeding: once a month in the growing season - April to September north of the equator, October to March south of it - it reminds you to feed your plants.
  • How often: a new or changed choice is read at the next hourly run if your limits allow it, then once a day, from 5 am on your clock - on a day with nothing due it tells nothing. Forecasts change, so look at the soil too. Saving never brings a run sooner than 6 hours after the last one started.
  • Run now starts a run by hand, once a day across all your loops, and only while none of them is in the middle of a run. Your loops also share a spending limit; a run it holds back waits for its next turn.
  • If 3 runs in a row fail, the loop pauses. Resume starts it again.
  • A daily email sums up what your loops found - one email a day, and only on a day one of them found something. It is on until you switch it off - on a loop's page once the loop is part of your plan, or, if your plan includes Loops, on your dashboard.
  • Anyone can check whether to water today for a town, with no account - nothing about them is kept.
  • To stop it, use Remove Plant Care. Its past runs are kept.
Should I water today?

Type your town or neighborhood to see the rain of the last three days and the next two, and whether to skip watering your outdoor plants - no account needed.

The town you type and its country are sent to a service that finds places, and the position it answers is kept for a month for the next person who checks that town. The weather is read for a rough area a few kilometers across. Nothing that names you is kept.
