English Practice

Tell English Practice your level, your own language, the minutes you have a day and, if you like, why you are learning. Each day it gives you a short set - 10 English words with their meanings in your language, a short reading with 3 questions, and a phrase you can use - and it steps up as you keep going.

English Practice explained 🔰
  • It gives you a set every day - 10 English words for an everyday theme, each with its meaning in your language, a short reading of 2 or 3 sentences with 3 questions about it, and a phrase you can use.
  • You enter your level, from Beginner (A1) to Near native (C2), your own language for the meanings, the minutes you have a day (5 to 25) and, if you like, why you are learning - the phrase is chosen for it.
  • The meanings are in the language you pick. A language marked "meanings may be less exact" is one in which they can be less reliable, so a dictionary is the better judge of any that looks off.
  • Each run writes your week of sets once a week, or sooner when you change your practice; on every other day it tells you today's set. Tick Done today or Done yesterday - a tick is recorded at once and starts no run.
  • How it steps up: each week is written at a step from 1 to 12, 2 for each level. When you tick every set of the week, the next week is a step harder; when you tick half or fewer, it is eased a step. Changing your level starts again from it.
  • How often: once a day. A new or changed practice is taken up at the next hourly run if your limits allow it. Saving never brings a run sooner than 6 hours after the last one started.
  • Run now starts a run by hand, once a day across all your loops, and only while none of them is in the middle of a run. Your loops also share a spending limit; a run it holds back waits for its next turn.
  • If 3 runs in a row fail, the loop pauses. Resume starts it again.
  • A daily email sums up what your loops found - one email a day, and only on a day one of them found something. It is on until you switch it off - on a loop's page once the loop is part of your plan, or, if your plan includes Loops, on your dashboard.
  • Where it leads: a week you look back on can be posted to Social from its run. To show employers your English, say so on your Talent Profile on EDM Jobs. For a job application written in English, Application Coach helps you write it.
  • What it is not: a course, a test or a certificate.
  • To stop it, use Remove your English practice. Your practice and your ticks are deleted, and its past runs are kept.
