Legal Steps

List your legal matters - a court date, an eviction notice, a debt collector, a problem at work or a deal gone wrong. Every week it tells you what this usually is, what usually happens next, the usual steps for your place, the dates to act counted from your day, and what to ask a licensed attorney. It covers 170 of 246 countries, each one in the country list below. Legal information, not legal advice - every step shows where it comes from. For advice on your case, ask a licensed attorney or legal aid.

Legal Steps explained 🔰
  • It gives a first look at your kind of matter where you live - what this usually is, what usually happens next and the usual steps - each step with the public page it comes from, such as a court's self-help pages or legal aid.
  • You enter your country and up to 10 cases - what happened in your own words, its kind, the date on the letter or the day it began, and a court or hearing date if you have one. To look up the steps, only your country and the kind are sent anywhere; your words and your dates stay with us.
  • A letter's photos: if you have a letter, a notice or a contract read into a case, its photos and the words you write beside them are sent once to the service that reads them for us, and the photos are deleted within about a day.
  • Urgent first: a court date, an eviction, a debt collector's letter or a garnishment, or any date within 14 days, is marked urgent and comes first; then a date within 60 days. Each time limit a source states is counted from your day, on our side.
  • What to ask: each case comes with the question to ask a licensed attorney, and the steps name where to find one or legal aid.
  • Shared, never yours alone: the steps for a place and a kind are read once a month and shared with everyone who asks the same - nothing about you or your cases is in them. Up to 3 are looked up a run, the rest on the next.
  • How often: new or changed cases are read at the next hourly run if your limits allow it, then once a week, with a reminder until you remove the case. Saving never brings a run sooner than 6 hours after the last one started.
  • Run now starts a run by hand, once a day across all your loops, and only while none of them is in the middle of a run. Your loops also share a spending limit; a run it holds back waits for its next turn.
  • If 3 runs in a row fail, the loop pauses. Resume starts it again.
  • A daily email sums up what your loops found - one email a day, and only on a day one of them found something. It is on until you switch it off - on a loop's page once the loop is part of your plan, or, if your plan includes Loops, on your dashboard.
  • To stop it, use Remove your cases. Its past runs are kept.
  • Legal information, not legal advice - every step shows where it comes from. For advice on your case, ask a licensed attorney or legal aid.
